Do you think saving calories and working out a little extra makes up for a special occasion?

O.K., so here’s the question, or concern.  Once a month, ever since my grandma died, the family gets together and eats and plays cards and has a good time.  We do it to stay in touch.  Now, I don’t plan to go put on the feed bag, so don’t get me wrong, I’m not gonna pig out.  But there are some mighty tasty goodies there, so I thought if I cut my calories a bit a few days before and after and worked out a little extra for a couple days it would kinda balance out.  What do you all think?  Like I said before, I’m not really dieting to lose weight, just trying to get a healthier lifestyle.  I still want to live life.

I know some people who do something like that once a week. They call it “cheat day”. They are still losing. I think it is perfectly fine and you should continue the tradition with your family.

    Good luck.

Although, I’m a total stickler on healthy natural food nowadays I do eat a piece or two of pizza every couple of weeks. I’m not taking about whole wheat crust with organic veggies and soy cheese. I’m talking greasy, bloat inspiring Pizza Hut pizza with lotsa meat and cheese. Is that a contradiction of my new healthy lifestyle? You betch. Do I care? Not a bit. Did that answer your question? lol.

nothing wrong with that, just as long you balance it out.

This is one of those instances where you need to find that balance…yes, you and your health are (and should be!) the priority. BUT. Just the fact that your family gathers in honor of/because of/as a result of the loss of your grandma underscores how important family can be to us. To be really, really blunt: if somebody told you you had 5 minutes to live, are you going to think “I shouldn’t have had that cake?” No. You’re going to think, “I am so blessed to have my family, and enjoyed my time with them.” Have the cake or the dip, whatever, and log your calories or whatever method you use, and *relish* the time on earth with your loved ones.

I say, one day will not ruin your diet. I eat out at buffets all of the time! It helps me stay on track!
See I ate out yesterday and ate a brownie off of the desert tray. If I had made brownies at home, I would have eaten them all! But at the restaurant, I could pick one and be finished.
I also think it helps keep my metabolism going since it probably makes my body think I am not restricting calories when most days I am eating less. Make sense?
