I got this message on Sparke People: *You’ve gone over your weekly calories burned goal by a significant amount. Your calories eaten goal will not adjust automatically. If you have increased the amount of exercise you are doing, you should update your fitness settings here to make sure you are consuming enough calories to support the additional activity.

What’s this about and should I up my calories?  Isn’t the idea to burn more calories than you are taking in?  I’m confused.

The reasoning behind this is that if you have too much of a calorie deficit your body will actually slow down your metabolism to compensate for it.

So should I adjust my calorie intake?

I’m new to sparkpeople but I think you should adjust your activity/fitness settings to something closer to what you are actually doing. Then sparkpeople will adjust your calorie range. Does that make sense? And yes they are going to increase your calorie range.

Ami, did you enter the right amount of exercise.

What I mean is, did you enter your exericse goal?

There is a section there where you can change your exercise goal from Monday thru Sunday. You can put whatever you want.

I put for example 5 days a week of 120 minutes. My calorie range is usually around 1670 to 2000 base on my proposed exercise goal.

As I enter my daily food and exercise information, if my exercise exceed the proposed amount and I meet my goal of exercise or calorie burned before the end of the week I get that message. So I go in and change my exercise goal to maybe 180 minutes - and it gives me a higher calorie range to work with.

I hope this makes a little sense.
